Fluoride debate gets heated in London
December 29, 2011 by Chloe
The next round of debates about whether or not to include fluoride into London, ON’s water will be a matter of discussion for city hall council, but not before fluoride critics have their say at a public session on January 25, 2012.
The water fluoridation debate, which has garnered enough interest for politicians to agree to have a formal forum to discuss water fluoridation’s health effects, will draw public health officials on both sides, arguing for and against ongoing fluoride use in water.
In the scheduled public forum, which involves passionate criticism, it is highly likely that fluoride critics will use poster or banner printings to back up health statistics in the public meeting to convince local politicians and London residents of health risks of fluoridation of water. One of the strongest claims that fluoride critics will bring to the debate is fluoride’s effect on bone fragility.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit board has discussed the fluoridation issue, a practice dating back to 1967 in the city, and have voted to continue to endorse its use, arguing that the chemical’s use produces health risks in levels dramatically higher than that already found in London’s water.
Opponents of water fluoridation have been granted a January 25th date to convince city council to vote against the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s endorsement.
An expected fluoride critic planning to attend and speak is Denise Brown, one of city council’s most vocal clinic. She encourages anyone in speaking about the issue at the public meeting to contact her first.
