Festival allows the public to help others

The 15th annual New Westminster Festival of Volunteers is taking place next month.

The event is designed to make it easier for organizations to find volunteers, and more convenient for people who want to help others but do not know where to go.

This festival will probably attract people from not only New Westminster, but nearby communities such as Delta. Exhibitors will likely provide printed information about their organizations that may be provided by local stationery printers.

There are expected to be more than 40 non-profit organizations on hand. They will be providing information about their programs and services, interviewing possible volunteers, and likely handing out promotional items such as pens and business cards for those who want to think about volunteering with them. Applications for tables are still being accepted and those who register before January 15 will be entered into an early bird draw. The fee per table is $40.

The public will be given a passport when entering and those who get a certain number of stamps will be entered into a draw to win a $500 shopping spree.

The festival will also have entertainment throughout the day, as well as a free yoga class from Karma Teachers.

The New Westminster Festival of Volunteers will be held at the Royal City Centre Mall on January 28 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
