Dartmouth gets a new brand

The Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission’s new marketing initiative “All Together Downtown Dartmouth” has developed a new logo for the downtown area. Previously, Downtown Dartmouth used three different logos. Those involved in the campaign feel narrowing it down to just one shows continuity and stability and will benefit business.

The new logo was announced at Alderney Landing on May 10. It was designed by the Extreme Group and it features a colorful and abstract modern design which is meant to exemplify the forward thinking and togetherness of those who live and work in downtown Dartmouth. This change will have given plenty of work to Dartmouth printing companies. When a city or a company changes their logo or brand, it means that all street signage, office stationery and official literature must be changed. A new city logo will also probably include the need for poster printing services, as posters and guide books aimed at attracting visitors to the city will all have to be replaced to include the new design. In addition, any city vehicles must also be repainted to feature the new logo. In short, everything that is official will be changed.

Another facet of All Together Downtown Dartmouth is a new website, created to draw attention to upcoming events, business openings, information on city housing, and residents who are making a change in the community.

While the changing of a city logo might not seem like much, it often helps to energize a community and allows them to embrace the change as a chance for a new beginning.
