Couple in their 80s tie the knot
November 25, 2011 by Martin
88 year-old Cecilia Glenn and 83 year-old Howard Christensen were recently married at the MCF Housing for Seniors Lodge in Calgary; the bride wore a purple wedding dress. The couple have said that it was love at first sight when they saw each other across the dining room at the lodge. It is the second marriage for both; Ms. Glenn is a former beauty queen and Mr. Christensen is a former Pentacostal minister. For now, the couple still live in separate rooms and are on a waiting list to get a room together.
With approximately 50% of marriages ending in divorce, it is heart-warming to see a couple of their age take this step. If the couple sent out invitations for their wedding, local Calgary printing companies could have designed an appropriate design to celebrate this event.
Weddings are often seen only for the young but people are waiting longer to get married. Most of them want to be settled in their career first before sharing their lives with another person. But this couple shows us that it is never too late to fall in love and build a life together. Marriage is not just for those who want to start a family; it is also for those who long for companionship and friendship. Seniors we have lost a spouse or who have never married are often very lonely and feel that their lives are behind them and that they will never find love again. Cecilia Glenn and Howard Christensen, and other seniors, who choose to get married, show that this is not the case and that love can blossom at any age.
