City of Pickering encourages cultural identity through its Cultural Directory

Artists and cultural organizations as well as prospective print companies who represent cultural diversity in the city can benefit from increased exposure through the city of Pickering’s new Cultural Directory. The municipality aims to preserve and enhance its reputation of being a provider of vibrant art, culture and heritage through its single culture directory.

Part of Pickering’s cultural strategic plan includes boosting the city’s tourism efforts and supporting the growing cultural sector of the city through Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports’ Creative Communities Prosperity Fund. Cultural and creative industries are two of the fastest growing sectors of the economies of Ontario and contribute to the economic development of the province.

Print companies can also play an important role in creative industries in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, the printing of local art and the dissemination of cultural works, the printing and advertising of local cultural events in and around the city, and the publication of useful paraphernalia, such as brochure or flyer printing, to encourage residents to attend local cultural activities.

Any organization or artisan in the city of Pickering wishing to become part of the Cultural Directory can complete an online registration form at www.cityofpickering.com or call 905-420-4260.

The directory is scheduled to launch on Monday, January 16th, however, the city will continue to accept registrations from local artisans, cultural non-profit organizations and creative industries as well as local operators of cultural heritage facilities and spaces.
