Annual flower show to bloom in Pickering

June 3, 2017 by

The 2017 Pickering Horticultural Society flower show will be held this month.

Members of the Horticultural Society will submit flowers they have cultivated in their own gardens, for the show. Entries will be accepted between 9:00 am and 10:00 am, before the doors open to the public. All members of the society are urged to take part in this yearly opportunity.

Residents from Pickering and surrounding areas are invited to attend the show and take advantage of the opportunity for the public to learn more about membership in the Horticultural Society, and the role it plays in the city’s ‘Pickering Blooms’ mandate.

Professional judges for the competition will begin their tour of the show at 10:30 am. Points are awarded to each entry, with an overall winner chosen before the conclusion of the event.

Catalogs and brochures providing information on the various flowers featured in the show may be printed and made available to the public.

The Horticultural Society was formed in 1933, providing an occasion for anyone interested in plants and gardening to socialize with one another. Their monthly meetings feature educational speakers and the opportunity to share their knowledge with each other. Anyone is welcome to join this nonprofit group, no matter what their level of experience is.

Taking place on June 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, the show will be held once again this year at the Pickering Recreation Complex, located at 1867 Valley Farm Road. Admission is free. For further information, call the Horticultural Society at 905-903-2597.
