Annual event promotes sustainability

The 12th annual Sustainable Pickering Day festival is taking place next month in the city, presented by the City of Pickering and the Pickering Town Center.

This event is an opportunity for Sustainable Pickering to let the public know what the organization is about and what steps are being taken in the city to help the environment. There is set to be an indoor farmers’ market that will feature organic and local produce, gardening demonstrations and hints from master gardeners, family activities such as arts and crafts, a green screen photo booth, and the milking of Maple the Cow.

In past years, there have also been educational displays, talks by tree and gardening experts, and tips on horticultural themes such as growing vegetables from seeds. It is likely that many of these topics will be themes at this year’s event.

Admission is free but guests are asked to bring a donation of a nonperishable food item that will be donated to a local food bank. No doubt marketing materials such as flyers and posters will be distributed in Pickering to raise awareness of this event.

Sustainable Pickering Day will be held at the Pickering Town Centre on March 25 from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Contact Chantal Whitaker at 905-420-4660 x2170 to find out more about this event or about Sustainable Pickering.
